Chapter 97

Vice stared at the mechanical structure and then back at Favian, before once again looking toward the structure. “What are those life-like images? You’re telling me that all of this is done without magic, but how?” he asked.

“That beeping sound, along with those waves, is monitoring a heartbeat. The machine is hooked up to whatever is inside of the tank right now, measuring its heartbeat,” Favian replied as he fumbled with the mechanical table.

“Hey, maybe we should act with caution first? We don’t know what will happen if you touch any of those buttons,” Vice said. Everything that happened next was a blur in Vice’s mind, and he couldn’t remember exactly what had started the chain of events.

All of a sudden cracks began to show on the tank, which Vice and his party were stood beside, and the door behind them shut with such a great force that a strong gale of wind pushed Vice onto the floor. Only moments later, did the tank crack, causing heaps of the green liquid held within to splash all over Vice. The liquid was extremely thick like a gelatinous substance. Vice struggled onto his feet.

‘Shit, what happened?’ Vice thought as he let his mana run rampant within his body. The energy pulsated from his arcane core and reached his hands. He cast his Chaotic Roulette. A purple book materialized in Vice’s hands.

Vice jumped back from a fist aimed at his temple. Despite being able to dodge the strike, a gale of wind pushed into Vice’s face, knocking him all the way to the other end of the room.

“PUH!” Vice spat as he smashed into the wall. The air was sucked out of his lungs. He slid down to the ground but picked himself up instantly. Vice looked about the room and saw the rest of his party already attacking the monstrosity in front of him. The creature from within the tank looked like a mixture of an octopus and a dryad. It had bark-like skin all over its body except for its limbs, which were green tentacles. The creature howled as it attempted to strike Favian in the face with its tentacles. Favian dodged, disappearing into thin air. He landed behind it and stabbed it in the back with his pair of daggers.

‘What the hell is that? Shit, I don’t have time to think about that. I just need to help in the battle right now,’ Vice thought. He opened the purple tome and turned the pages until he found what he was looking for. Vice closed his eyes as he concentrated on the image of multiple chains. The chains escaped from the book and lashed at the monstrosity, clamping down on its limbs before wrapping around its torso and digging into its flesh. Dark green liquid seeped out of its bark-like body and it screeched like a banshee.

The creature writhed about. It broke out of Vice’s chains. It flailed around, its tentacles slamming into everything within sight. Glass beakers and jars
